About Kilmarnock College

Kilmarnock College is set in the heart of East Ayrshire and is a college committed to working with learners, communities and business. In undertaking this commitment we have helped hundreds if not thousands of students fulfil their dreams whether it is a career change, a stepping stone to university or gaining employment for the first time. We also take pride in offering our students opportunities to take part in international events and visits.

East Ayrshire has produced many famous names that have gone on to international recognition. Robert Burns had his ‘First Edition' printed in Kilmarnock and many prominent Kilmarnock people were his friends and several of his poems feature local people and settings. However perhaps most famously of Kilmarnock was Johnnie Walker who marketed his ‘Walkers Kilmarnock Whisky' which then went on to become the world famous ‘Johnnie Walker's, which is now owned by Diageo.

Kilmarnock was also home to a range of manufacturing companies, including engineering and carpets, some of which continue today.

Over the 50 years Kilmarnock College has existed it has seen many changes in its student population and in the ever-changing demands of the society we live in. It is hoped that we as a college are as diverse as the community we support, live and work in.

During 2007 the college has refurbished areas of the college dedicated to supporting our student community. Work has concentrated on areas such as funding, learning support, learning resource centre and perhaps most dramatically of all, our student association facility. The student's association now includes a state of the art Internet café with laptops and colour printing facilities.

The fast changing world of work means we all need to continually update our knowledge and skills. Kilmarnock College offers a wide range of courses available on a flexible basis; evening classes; part-day part-evening, open and distance learning. There is also a wide range of courses on-line meaning you can study from home, work, a library or learning centre.

The college has a staff of 370 of which, 187 are teaching staff. There are 2000 full time students and 5000 part time students. Kilmarnock College has annual revenue of £13m and activity of 53,000 SUMs.
