Kilmarnock College is offering two routes to this qualification; Vehicle Maintenance and Repair (Heavy Route) with seven mandatory and one optional unit - SVQ Level 3, and Vehicle Maintenance and Repair (Light Route) with nine mandatory and one optional unit.
The qualification comprises of individual assessment units which are agreed at the outset with the candidate and their employer, depending on the route chosen. The candidate is required to produce a portfolio of evidence to demonstrate their knowledge and practical skills in the job. The candidate will receive help and support on how to develop this from the assessor.
Entry Requirements
In order to achieve this qualification, the candidate must be employed within the motor vehicle repair industry, have their employer's support to do it, have already gained the practical skills and knowledge or be receiving training on the job. The candidate should have responsibility in the decision making process in the garage and will be able to demonstrate good practical skills and knowledge of the job.
Benefits
This nationally recognised qualification within the motor industry allows the candidate to progress to advanced industry qualifications such as MOT testing, etc. The qualification can also help to improve career development/promotion into a supervisory role within their existing workplace.
