Achievement
Surviving a heart attack and changing my perspective for the better.

Background
After losing my father to bone cancer in July 2007, I suffered a heart attack in November 2007, which changed my whole outlook to life. Achievement and recognition at work was no longer my priority. When you are faced with losing your life in an emergency room full of strangers, you quickly put your life into perspective. My lifestyle had to change I had to put my family first and foremost.

After being made redundant in November 2008, and applying for over 100 jobs, my daughter suggested going back to college. A lot of my family work in nursing, and after the excellent care I received after my heart attack, I decided that nursing would be the right profession to undertake. The rest is history.

"Thanks to Kilmarnock College and the SWAP programme, I am now getting the chance to fulfil my ambitions and I can honestly say, it is the best decision I have ever made. I have never been happier and that is down to great class mates and good tutors"
