Calling All Bright Sparks!
Teams sought for New National Music Challenge
The Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) and Bauer Radio Events today announce the launch of an exciting new music quiz for 16-24 year olds across Scotland.................. The HN Challenge.
Organisers are asking those who think they know their Jim Morrison from their James Morrison, their Hot Chip from their Coldplay and their Gorillaz from their Arctic Monkeys to take part in the music challenge over the next 3 weeks by registering on line at www.hnchallenge.com
The top prize is the rock ‘n’ roll trip of a lifetime to see 5 concerts in 5 European cities over 5 days – a whistle-stop tour of the Continent seeing the biggest bands at the coolest venues...and staying in the best hotels along the way!
The HN Challenge has been set up by Bauer on behalf of SQA and Scotland’s Colleges to promote Higher National Certificates and Diplomas. These qualifications provide students with the practical skills needed to do a job and the theoretical knowledge that an employer will expect them to have. There are HNCs and HNDs covering a huge range of subjects, so whichever career path students wish to follow, there’s sure to be a course to suit.
The first round of the HN Challenge consists of the online Quickfire Qualifier – a timed, multiple-choice set of questions from which 75 teams around the country will be selected to take part in the Regional Heats. Questions are predominantly music-based with a smattering of general knowledge posers thrown in for good measure. All wannabe winners should simply log on to www.hnchallenge.com and complete the Quickfire Qualifier to start their quest.
The Regional Heats will take place in 7 locations around the country - hosted by the relevant local Bauer radio station in each area – and the winners and runners-up from each heat then go forward to the Grand Final. The dates, venues and locations for each heat are as follows:
Monday 19th October - The Priory, Aberdeen Tuesday 20th October - The Ironworks, Inverness Wednesday 21st October - Centenary Bar, Dundee Monday 26th October - City Nightclub, Edinburgh Wednesday 28th October - H20, Galashiels Monday 2nd November - Sports Café, Glasgow Wednesday 4th November - The Sports Bar at Rugby Park, Kilmarnock The winners and runners-up from each Regional Heat then progress to The Grand Final which will take place in central Scotland in late November – venue and location will be announced shortly. A total of 14 teams will fight it out to be crowned HN Challenge Champions of 2009 and bag themselves the big prize.
Siobhan Crampsey of Bauer Radio Events says “We’re delighted to be working with SQA on the HN Challenge. Together we’ve created a national quiz that is demanding but thoroughly entertaining, testing but great fun. Higher National qualifications and The Challenge itself are perfect partners...it’s all about a thirst for knowledge, pushing yourself and hopefully getting the right results....the prize is definitely worth it!”
Dr Gill Stewart, SQA Director of Qualifications Development says, “SQA and Scotland’s Colleges are excited about working with Bauer Radio Events on this innovative new music quiz – the HN Challenge. HNs provide learners with qualifications for the real world of today and tomorrow. I’d like to wish all teams who enter the competition, the best of luck.”
Registration via the online Quickfire Qualifier closes on Friday 9th October so all musos are urged to get online today and stake their seat at the HN Challenge 2009.
