Cabinet Secretary for Education and Lifelong Learning, Fiona Hyslop, to open new Customer Services Centre at Kilmarnock College

Cabinet Secretary, Fiona Hyslop, will visit Kilmarnock College on Tuesday 24 November to launch the new Customer Services Centre.

Fiona Hyslop will meet with College Principal, Heather Dunk, Chair of the College’s Board of Management, Stephen Brannagan, other members of the College’s Senior Management Team, staff and students.  

The Customer Services Centre provides students with direct access to advice on finance and funding, career development and services from qualified staff.  With a full range of provisions available, the centre offers a one-stop-shop for all student needs.

The Customer Services Centre will also be equipped with a video booth which allows students to communicate directly with the College on areas of improvement and success.  Further private rooms are available for students who need to talk confidentially with staff.

Principal of Kilmarnock College, Heather Dunk, said: “I am delighted to welcome the Cabinet Secretary to open our new Customer Services Centre.  Kilmarnock College works tirelessly to ensure the needs of our students are met and an appropriate support structure is in place.  The new Centre offers advice and services from trained staff to assist students during their time at the College and with their future plans.”

Kilmarnock College employed local construction and design companies in developing the Customer Services Centre, which was financed by capital funding received by the College.

After the formal opening, the Cabinet Secretary and Principal will visit students in the College’s innovative new centre which promotes hope, inspiration and vision in education (the hive).  The hive is a hub of activity, encouraging the development and participation of harder to reach groups, school pupils, those who require additional support in the classroom and community learners through an engaging educational programme.

11.00hrs – Media and photographers arrive.

11.15hrs – Opening of Customer Services Centre, Principal will welcome Cabinet Secretary.

11.20hrs – Speech from Fiona Hyslop, Cabinet Secretary.

11.40hrs – Students from the College will address the visitors.

11.55hrs – Vote of thanks, Lewis Clark, Student President.

12.00hrs – After formal opening, Cabinet Secretary and Principal will visit students in the hive.

12.15hrs – Cabinet Secretary joins guests for buffet lunch and refreshments in The Gallery Restaurant (further opportunity to meet students).

12.30hrs – Cabinet Secretary leaves.
