Fundraising through the festive period

Personal Empowerment Zone (PEZ) students at Kilmarnock College are mid-way through their festive fundraising activities, after raising over £2,000 from an 80s Night and a Sponsored Triathlon.

The 18 week PEZ programme is designed to build confidence and essential skills in young learners, preparing them for further education in a vocational area.  As part of their Enterprise Unit, the PEZ students plan and organise events from November to January.

The 80s Dinner took place within the College’s Gallery Restaurant while the Sponsored Triathlon took place at the Castle Semple Activity Centre in Lochwinnoch.

Students will continue with their fundraising efforts after the festive period with a Burns Supper planned in January.  All proceeds will be given to two charities, Allies for the homeless, and the Holiday Project, giving disadvantaged families in Ayrshire the chance to go on short breaks to caravan parks.

Mark Vance, Learner Engagement Officer at Kilmarnock College, said: “We are thrilled with our students’ fundraising efforts and look forward to our next activity in January.  We would like to thank the Castle Semple Activity Centre for providing us with the venue, the mountain bikes and kayaks for the Sponsored Triathlon.

The students agreed that it was important for them to give something back to their local area so selected two charities close to their hearts.  I would like to take this opportunity to praise the PEZ students for their fundraising work up to now and wish them the very best for the next event.”

The College’s Gallery Restaurant will host the Burns Supper in January, even having a change of name on the evening from ‘The Gallery Restaurant’ to ‘Cen-tra-pez’.
