Local Band Inspires Students at Kilmarnock College

Ayrshire indie rock band, the Ghosties, recently made a surprise appearance at Kilmarnock College, encouraging young people to chase their dreams and demonstrate that anything is possible.ghosties 1

The three piece band, featuring John Davidson on guitar, Steven Lopez on bass and Malcolm Hunter on drums, played a selection of tracks and took part in a question and answer session, giving students the opportunity to find out about their road to success. Over the years the Ghosties have supported acts such as The Bluetones, Jamie T and The Cosmic Rough Riders, and have played nearly 400 gigs across the UK and Europe.

The band were invited to the College as a treat for students studying courses including the Prince’s Trust Team Programme, the Personal Empowerment Zone (PEZ) and the Winter Leavers’ Programme. The 17 week Winter Leavers’ Programme gives S5 pupils, who are due to leave Secondary School in December, the opportunity to attend College August to December as an alterative to returning to school. Students study a range of vocational subjects equipping them for future employment or further study at College.

Carol Nisbet, Head of Widening Access and Participation at Kilmarnock College, said: “We are immensely grateful to the band and were thrilled that they took the time to speak to our students. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves. As John, Steven and Malcolm are originally from Auchinleck, they are a great local inspiration and it is wonderful to see them connecting with the students.”
