Kilmarnock College Inspiring Achievement Week

Kilmarnock College Inspiring Achievement Week

Kilmarnock College hosted an Inspiring Achievement Week, which took place between 17–19 February. The initiative, aimed at promoting staff development, involved a number of events including a whole College Development Day, staff training and feedback sessions.

The Management team and staff of Kilmarnock College also joined forces with organisations throughout Scotland, spending one day working in-house with stakeholders across the country. The placements were undertaken to build relations with businesses, increase effective communication and share good practices.

Staff from the College visited over twenty organisations including RSAMD, Stevenson College Edinburgh, East Ayrshire Council, Skills Development Scotland and the University of the West of Scotland.

Jane McKie, Kilmarnock College’s Director of Organisational Development, alongside the Director of Learning and Teaching, Bernadette McGuire, visited the Alliance of Sector Skills Council, Edinburgh.

Jane McKie said: “The Alliance Sector Skills Council provide an imperative voice and support for over 25 skills sectors throughout the country. This initiative offers a great opportunity to understand the council from the inside out and build upon our relationship to ensure we can meet the future needs of specific economic sectors.”

Minnie Ker and the College’s Health and Social Care team visited Glasgow Caledonian University Nursing and Social Work department to gain a practical insight into the establishment and the delivery of Higher Education courses.

Minnie Ker, Health and Social Care Curriculum Manager at Kilmarnock College said: “Our time at Glasgow Caledonian University provided a great occasion to talk with staff and witness course structures as they are delivered to students. It is important that Kilmarnock College students looking to progress to Higher Education are fully prepared and understand the level of work required. In order to achieve this we work closely with Further and Higher Education organisations to ensure we are up to date on course and sector developments.”

During Inspiring Achievement Week the College hosted a whole College Development Day on Thursday 18 February. The event, which involved staff across all levels, allowed the opportunity for discussion on how the College engages with partners, feedback on external stakeholder placements and the mapping of future plans for Kilmarnock College.  The event also welcomed keynote speaker Det Chief Superintendent John Carnochan, Violence Reduction Unit, Strathclyde Police.

Principal of Kilmarnock College, Heather Dunk, said: “Staff development is a fundamental process within Kilmarnock College and we strive to ensure employees are fully equipped to help students reach their potential. The College’s Inspiring Achievement Week was a great success and allowed individuals the chance to work directly with our external stakeholders in addition to coming together as a College.”
