Get On Your Bike!
Two students from Kilmarnock College will cycle over 800 miles from Land’s End to John O’Groats next month, as they get on their bikes in aid of charity.
John Cassidy (25) from Kilmarnock and Robert Morton (21) from Hurlford will set off from Land’s End on Friday 2 April, attempting to complete their journey in ten days. All funds raised by the students, who are both studying Access to Further Education at Kilmarnock College, will go towards the special school, Witchhill, based in Kilmarnock.
John said: “Cycling across the country is something that I have always wanted to do and when I mentioned this to my classmate Robert, he couldn’t wait to get involved too. We began planning the trip towards the end of last year and we’ve been looking at our route. We’re planning to cycle during daylight hours and we’ll find a place to camp each night.
“We have received excellent support from the College, friends, family and Walkers bike shop in Kilmaurs, who have given us reduced rate bike hire, full bike servicing and have also kindly donated spare kits and tools. We can’t wait to get started!”
Robert added: “The money raised from our challenge will go towards equipment for pupils at Witchhill School in Kilmarnock, many of whom suffer from profound learning or physical difficulties. We would like to thank everyone who has supported us so far and hope to raise enough to make a real difference at Witchhill.”
The Kilmarnock College Students Association, Bordones Cafe, Costa Coffee and Candy Express in Kilmarnock, are all helping John and Robert raise money for the trip and have sponsorship forms available onsite.
