Four hairdressing students were recently confirmed as some of the most talented in the UK after scooping several awards at a prestigious national hair and beauty competition.
The four budding stylists joined the hundreds of Hairdressing and Beauty Therapy students from colleges throughout the UK who flocked to the annual Association of Hairdressers and Therapists Competition, held in Blackpool’s Winter Garden, eager to showcase their talents.
Jakki Forbes (18), an Introduction to Hairdressing student from Kilmarnock, won gold in the Gent’s Commercial Look category and bronze in the Ladies’ Fashion Look category. Fellow Introduction to Hairdressing student, Patricia McIIvanney (25) from Kilmarnock, and Level 2 Hairdressing student, Debbie Ferguson (21) from Cumnock, scooped silver medals in the Ladies’ Fashion Look and Ladies’ Progressive categories respectively.
Part-time Level 3 Hairdressing student, Claire Campbell (24), from Auckinleck, also succeeded in the competition, winning a bronze medal in the Professional category while representing her employer, Urban Hair in Cumnock.
Nancy Dobbie, Hairdressing Curriculum Manager at Kilmarnock College, said: “We were impressed with our students’ efforts, this was a fantastic achievement and they all should be very pleased with themselves. Not only were they representing Kilmarnock College, they were also representing Scotland and did us all proud.”
Also extending her congratulations to the students and staff involved in the competition was Kilmarnock College Principal, Heather Dunk.Principal Dunk added: “I know from speaking to the students involved that the competition provided a great learning experience for each of them.
“I would like to give special thanks to staff, who gave up their weekend to accompany students at the event and provided support during a very challenging competition. Well done to everyone involved.”
