Students from HND Administration recently visited Western House Hotel in Ayr to look at the role of an office manager as part of a case study for a graded unit project.
The course encourages students to bring any relevant work experience into the class environment to help relate content to practice.
During the visit the students were given the opportunity of spending time with an office manager and an events Manager to give the students a real insight into the aspects of the jobs.
Many of the students commented on the variety of duties carried out by the office manager and it gave them an idea of the type of qualities/skills required to do such a job. Another benefit of this visit was to allow students to relate course units to the type of work that an office manager is responsible for.
The visit has given the students renewed enthusiasm and confidence to approach the graded unit and has encourages the students to take responsibility for their learning to a new level as they played a large part in the organisation of the day.
