Art Students Brush Shoulders with Leading Figure from Art World

Art and Design students were recently given an insight into the industry by a leading art figure, Deborah Holland.

Deborah, who is projects manager and lecturer at the Glasgow School of Art, has been running a series of workshops at the college since December, for Art and Design students who are interested in continuing their studies at degree level.

As part of the Glasgow School of Art ‘Portfolio Clinics' project, funded by Maxwell-MacLaurin Solicitors, Deborah has been helping students develop their portfolios, providing tips and holding one-on-one seminars.

Deborah said: "The sessions provide students with the opportunity to informally meet a member of Glasgow School of Art staff and receive information relating to applying to study the visual arts at degree level."

Chris Mackenzie, Art and Design lecturer at Kilmarnock College, helped arrange the recent visits from Deborah. Chris said: "We were so grateful that Deborah gave up her time to come into college to share her experiences with the students. The visits were thoroughly enjoyable and beneficial for both our students and staff."

As a result of Deborah's visits, four Art and Design students have now applied to start at the Glasgow School of Art in September.
