Students and staff have successfully raised over £150 for local charity, Ayrshire Hospice, and £360 for Comic Relief after taking part in a number of fundraising activities throughout March.
Students studying the Access to Nursing course at Kilmarnock College took part in a sponsored fancy dress walk around Kay Park in Kilmarnock and a sponsored ‘babysitting' evening. As part of the ‘babysitting' evening, a selection of students were chosen look after virtual babies, which are normally used for training as part of their course. Students from the college's Beauty department also helped raise funds by volunteering their services at charity nail bars in the college's reception area and college salon. All three events were a huge success with students raising a combined total of £360 for Comic Relief.
Students and staff from the college's Supported Learning Department also got in the fundraising spirit by holding a number of fundraising fairs and arranging the design of a charity calendar. £150 was successfully raised by the department and was awarded to Liz Davidson, Lecturer at Kilmarnock College and Ambassador for the Ayrshire Hospice. Later this year Liz will be attempting the 65-mile Great Wall of China Trek to raise awareness and funds for the Ayrshire Hospice.
Kilmarnock College Principal, Heather Dunk, said: "It's great to see our students and staff working hard together to raise funds for such worthwhile causes. They have all done incredibly well and should be very proud of what they have achieved. We all know the great work Comic Relief does and are also aware of how vital funds are for local charities like the Ayrshire Hospice. We wish Liz all the best for her sponsored trek later in the year."
