Proud staff at Kilmarnock College recently held a ceremony to honour the achievements of a group of hard-working students who will continue their studies at university this month.
The thirteen students have just completed their HNC Health Care course while working as nursing assistants with NHS Ayrshire and Arran. After just a week's break, the students are now heading straight into second year of the Adult Nursing degree at the University of the West of Scotland.
Also attending the ceremony were the course lecturers, the students' managers from NHS Ayrshire and Arran, and a representative from the University of the West of Scotland. Principal of Kilmarnock College, Heather Dunk, presented the students with a college certificate and congratulated them on their success, accompanied by Vice Principal Gordon Jenkins and Assistant Principal Joe Spencer.
Moira Graham, Lecturer at Kilmarnock College, said "The students have worked so hard over the past year and we wanted to not only celebrate their success but also recognise their hard work and commitment. They have done extremely well and the feedback from their work placements has been fantastic.
"To give up work and go into full time study is a huge decision to make and can be extremely daunting. We are confident that this group of students will excel in their course at the University of the West of Scotland and will make exceptional nurses once they have graduated."
Originally created to address the lack of nurses carrying on to the second and third years of their degree, the HNC Healthcare with Extended Clinical Practice is unique to Ayrshire and Arran and rotates between Kilmarnock College, James Watt College and Ayr College on an annual basis. The course focuses on practical experience and the students are required to gain at least 760 hours practical experience in hospitals and clinics to broaden their clinical experience.
Kilmarnock College has a proud tradition of producing professional and qualified health sector workers. For more information on the courses available at Kilmarnock College please visit the courses section or phone 01563 523 501
